The river Sava comes from the north- west of Slovenia. The fly fishing district Sava, which is managed by RD Kranj, begins at the Majdičev dam in Kranj and ends at the bridge near the Planika factory, 2 km away. This district includes the river Kokra, too- from the dam of the hydropower plant Standard to the confluence with the Sava-200m. The district is really heaven for fishing of salmonids, especially for big graylings and trouts. The river is wide, with one dam and colourful landscape where you can try fishing with dry fly as well as with the heavy wet one.

From the bridge at the Planika factory to the hydropower plant Mavčiče there is a reservoir and its waters are pretty still and very rich in whitefish, especially common nases and chubs.You can fish here even in the organized and competitive way, right at the beginning of the district. The most common way to fish here is to fish for common nases- whether ground fishing or float fishing. The lake gives life to many predatory fish- mostly pike ,zander and catfish- which grow to remarkable sizes due to the plenty of food. If you jig, there is always a possibility to catch a large specimen of rainbow trouts or brown trouts.
The fishing on the Sava varies: it may include fly fishing , jigging, ground fishing or boat angling and you can always catch the fish of your dreams. The most common fish are brown trouts, rainbow trouts, graylings, chubs, common nases,pikes, tenches, percoidei, carps, zanders, huchens, common rudds, roaches ,barbels and catfish.
