RD Kranj bousts with more than hundred of years of tradition. Right here, the pioneer of fresh water fishing in Slovenia, late Ivan Franke has between 1878 and 1889 artificially grown first generation of brown trouts. In 1953 RD Kranj became public society with districts, as they are even today. Currently it contains 160 members and 15 juniors, who volunterely manage and protect the districts the state entrusted them.
The districts in RD Kranj vary; you can find fast waters there, reservoirs as well as ponds, which are divided into four districts , Kokra Sava, Zbilje and  Ribniki.
The river Kokra is rich in salmonids, its spring is in the middle of the Karavanke mountains and in its first half is very fast,  characteristic alpine river. But it slows down until it reaches the Sava, so it is very possible to find brown trouts in its upper stream, rainbow trouts and graylings in its down stream. The district's lenght is 20 km and it includes two artificial little lakes: the lake Črnava and the lake Planšarsko jezero.
The Sava river, that runs from the southwest of Slovenia, comes into the Mavčiško jezero very fast but then its current slows down.The upper current is heaven for fly fishing for salmonids, especially for the very big graylings. The middle current is very rich in whitefish, especially chubs and common nases and there you can have organized and competitive fishing. The lake in the last part of the district is home to many predatory fish, like pike, catfish or zander. Because they all have plenty to eat, they grow to remarkable sizes.
After the hydropower plant  Mavčiče  the Sava becomes faster again, but the reservoir Zbiljsko jezero slows it down. This territory is ideal for fishing of pikes, common nases and big trouts. Boat angling is allowed on both lakes, so you can rent a boat in our fisherman's cabin in Praše or in our boathouse in Zbilje..
During the winter season it is also allowed to fish for huchen in the Sava and in Zbilje. The huchen is the king of our waters and some that were caught in our district ,were up to 125 cm long.
Special place in RD Kranj is saved for the ponds- united in the district Ribniki- where you can find large grass carps and common carps. If you are not an avid fisherman you can find interesting places to see in the city of Kranj and its neighbourhood. Short or longer trips are recommended: you can see the Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe mountains, you can take a plunge in the olympic pool or visit famous tourist spots Bled and Bohinj. And if you miss the big city life you can visit Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, which is only 25 km away from Kranj..
